LONDON TRANSPORrs "loyal and dedicated" staff has received no consideration in the Government's plans to nationalise LT next year, according to the Transport Salaried Staffs Association.
The TSSA, which represents clerical and administrative staff at LT, has accused the Government of being motivated by prejudice against the Greater London Council and public ownership.
It says the absence of any clarity about finance in the White Paper detailing the plans to establish London Regional Transport (CM, August 6) is alrming and says there could be a reduction in services, fewer free and reduced travel facilities, higher fares, less modernisation, and an overall reduction in jobs.
Proposals for privatising bus services would lead to further concentration on peak-hour-only services, the TSSA argues.
"Despite adverse circumstances, London Transport has kept the capital moving. It has a loyal and dedicated staff who have received no consideration whatsoever in the Government's plans," says TSSA.
