THE SILLY season is well and truly here. Torbay council, having allowed women to go topless on beaches, has had to rescind its ban on shorts — but "nothing outrageous," mind — for taxi drivers. Decorum is, however, to be preserved. Drivers must keep their socks on.
Meanwhile, a stuffy Northamptonshire golf club has banned topless sunbathing by women because it was putting members off their game. But the ultimate in stupidity must surely be the insistence that hotels to be included in the Wales Tourist Board's guides must have beds of metric dimensions. Never mind the comfort; feel the centimetres. And this in a principality where the preservation of the Welsh language and all things Welsh is an obsession.
