waste fat to bio-diesel for its UK distribuon fleet, ready for service trials in Iril 2002.
Sheffield-based Exceiar is colcting the fat used in the store's itisserie, staff canteen and comer restaurants, which accounts r 138,000 litres per year, and will :cycle it into bio-diesel to be used the store's fleet of HCVs.
ASDA environmental manager n Bowles says: This makes solute business sense. We have to iss en all costs to our customers, it we would like to be able to pass 1 savings, such as those achieved 'rough bio-diesel."
The supermarket will also make ige savings in environmental taxes the fat is no longer discarded in ndfill sites.
ASDA claims that the fuel has 1-29% lower emissions than ultra w sulphur diesel.
