GREATER Manchester Police (GMP) will not take any further action against the seven United Road Transport Union (URTU) men arrested in relation to a Driver —•••Pr CPC fraud investigation.
The announcement brings to an end a 10-month probe, in conjunction with the DSA, into URTU general secretary Bob Monks (left), plus six national and regional officers at the union.
Initially, the police said the arrests were for fraud offences relating to LGVs and Driver CPC training. A GMP spokesman declined to comment.
However, URTU told CM it welcomed the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service and the GMP. "Members of URTU aren't the first trade unionists to be arrested and they won't be the last," said a spokesman.
"The actions of the state has not deflected URTU from continuing to seek, on behalf of all professional lorry drivers, a judicial review of the government's decision to play fast and loose with both professional drivers and the general public's health and safety," he added.
