A SPECIAL version of the Neville Charrold Nimrod tilting bogie trailer weighing only 4.1 tonnes (4.1 tons) has been built for a Norwegian aggregates carrier, Guy Stensmyren, of Drammen.
Restrictions on gross vehicle weights in Norway, well below those permitted in neighbouring Sweden, have made Norwegian operators look for ways in which to reduce vehicles' unladen weights and provide for a greater payload capacity.
This Nimrod all-welded aluminium trailer has fixed sides and is 7.9m (26ft) long, with a capacity of 16cum ;(21cuyd). Positive displacement Edbro SD 16 five-stage tipping gear is used to lift the whole trailer, complete with landing gear, pivoting about the rear axle.
As the body is raised, with the trailer brakes released, the wheelbase becomes shortened allowing for a clear discharge at the rear.
The non-standard features include taper leaf springs with a wide spread 2.05m (80.5m) bogie rated for an imposed load of 18 tonnes (17.7 tons) and a full-length rubbing_ railalong each side welded to the body ribs.
