APISTON-RING having a multitude of slots is shown in patent No. 890,421. The design gives an even expansive force but is claimed to prevent jamming. (Ramsey Corp., Weidrnan Road, Manchester, Missouri, U.S.A.)
The ring is of channel section with its open side facing outwards. Its inner
wall is cut into numerous notches as shown at 1. Thin slits are made from the working face into each of these notches, but in staggered formation, alternately on the top face as shown at 2 and at the bottom (3). A single normal cut is also provided, but this is expected to be completely closed in the cylinder. The slits may be of assorted width laid out in a regular repeated pattern.
