We reckon we get more than our fair share of rain in the UK, but compared with some we should be counting our blessings. Earlier this year weeks of heavy rain and a cyclone left much of southern and central Mozambique under water. Four months on there is still great suffering and hardship.
In response DaimlerChrysler recently announced it was increasing its aid to the flood-stricken country. Company chairman Jurgen E Schrempp pledged further help when he met Mozambique's president, Joaquim Chissano, at the Africa Business Forum 2000 held in Berlin.
This help will include eight Mercedes-Benz trucks being sent to the country's capital, Maputu. Six of them are for a Catholic relief organisation called the Caritas Mocambicana; the other two will go to the Relief Corps of the Order of Malta in Mozambique.
