QNE of the A.E.C. exhibits at the Geneva Show is a Mandator 4 a 4 chassis with a wheelbase of 11 ft, designed particularly for use as a tipper in mountainous regions. An A.E.C. AV 690 engine developing 200 h.h.p. (S.A.E.) is used and this drives through a six-speed main gearbox and a two-speed auxiliary unit. The model has been developed following requests from overseas, and to suit the Swiss market has right-hand drive and is fitted with an exhaust brake. A left-hand-drive version is also available.
Also featured by A.E.C. at Geneva is a 13-ft. 7-in. version of the A.E.C. Reliance 470 underfloor-engined passenger chassis aimed at a specific section of the Swiss vehicle market. This is the State Post Buses, which carry mail and parcels as well as passengers, and the chassis is fitted with a number of special units to make it suitable for Swiss conditions. These include power-assisted steering, a low-ratio rear axle, separate front and rear air brake circuits, exhaust brake and automatic chassis lubrication. The engine is an A.E.C. AH 470 diesel and this drives through a six-speed constant-mesh gearbox.
Another interesting exhibit by A.E.C. is a Mandator fitted with a refuse-collection body and incorporating Monocontrol semi-automatic transmission. This last vehicle is in the open-air section of the exhibition.
