THE Institute of Road Transport Engineers annual two-day conference at the St Johns Hotel, Solihull began today, Friday.
Dr A. K. S. Jordine from the University of Birmingham started the proceedings with a paper that outlined recent developments, into nto account economic measures appropriate to the setting of component and vehicle replacement rules He was followed by Dr C. Goodwin from Perkins ngines Ltd, who talked of the responsibilities that the engine manufacturer has to contribute to the economies of road transport.
Leyland's Truck and Bus body structure manager W. T. Low expounded on the aerodynamic considerations of cab and body design, whilst the PTE's director of engineering operations D. A. Cox put forward a new approach to an old problem on maintenance and operating costs. The first day closed with a paper by P. C. Nunn, technical training manager for the RTITB on the cost benefits of an efficient training scheme.
