ATRUCK DRIVER, who caused a crash which led to a man's death 12 days later has had his 18-month sentence suspended for two years on appeal.
The Appeal Court heard how David Brooks was jailed for death by dangerous driving at Bolton Crown Court last December. Brooks has been driving along
the A580 and had passed a number of signs indicating a junction was ahead but did not see a line of stationary traffic.
He ploughed into a van driven by Stanley Thompson, which was crushed between Brooks' truck and a vehicle in front. Thompson suffered from heavy bruising to his chest and a fractured
leg. However, there was a delay to an operation on his leg because of his ill health and he died from a blood clot on 18 August, almost two weeks later.
Mr Justice Fulford said: "Although the accident and the fatality were clearly linked, the accident was in many important respects a distant cause."
