Police are hunting a gang of thieves who attacked three security guards at a haulage yard in Birmingham before stealing a load of Nike sportswear.
At around 11.45pm last Saturday (1 May) six men broke into Leggett Freightways' depot in Coleshill and tied up and beat three security guards.
The intruders then attempted to steal an artic. However, they were unable to start the tractor so they removed the sports equipment from the trailer.
The intruders left the premises in a red car, possibly a Seat Leon. A second vehicle could also have been involved in the robbery. The gang was believed to consist of two black men and four white men.
The security guards managed to alert a passing motorist who raised the alarm. They were then taken to hospital and treated for severe bruising.
Leggett's operations manager Gary Leadbetter says: "Injuries were inflicted on my guards which I wouldn't want to see anyone else go through. The men are mentally scarred for life." • Contact: Coleshill CID on 01926 415000
