)EMAND FOR second-hand fire engines emains healthy, says Tony Williams of Kirkby, iverpool -based independent dealership Williams Truck Sales.
At the time of writing he had no less than 30 n stock at the firm's 25-acre site, typically lating from 1982 to 1994.They're parked up dongside a wide cross-section of tractor units, igids and trailers.
"Some of them go to factories to provide onite emergency cover, while quite a few go to ieople who operate waste transfer stations," te reports. "They use them to damp down the lust. We sell some to African countries, while ithers are bought by people who intend to unveil them into limousines."
The fire engines are supplied with their iumps, and fire-fighting equipment is ometimes included too. Some Mercedes 1120-based engines offered for sale recently were even being supplied complete with their ladders and some hoses.
So how much does a used fire engine cost? "Prices typically range from £2,500 to L5,500," says Williams.
