• A haulage firm put six trucks which were not on its 0-licence on the road after biting of)' more than it could chew with a Birmingham Airport contract, a court was told.
Mala Tours, trading as Eurolink Freight, of Shaftsmoor Lane, Birmingham, accepted that it committed the offences after the workload became too much for it to handle. But this mistake cost the company 22,470 in fines and costs.
Dominic Green, prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, told Solihull magistrates that the offences came to light when one of the firm's vehicles was checked on the way to the air
port in May. It was discovered that the firm was running eight trucks but that only two were authorised on ts 0-licence.
In a letter to the court Eurolink Freight's managing director, Jetha Vatshi Ravinder, said Eurolink was a small haulage company which had won a big contract dealing with Birmingham Airport freight.
"But the workload proved to be too large to handle and the licences were overlooked through our good intentions to get the job done," said Ravinder in the letter.
He added that the firm had now passed on the contract to a larger haulage company.
