Allbins Skip Hire and director Garry Thompson pleaded guilty to 16 charges relating to running the site between January 2003 and May 2004. The company also pleaded guilty to failing to respond to a notice issued by the Environment Agency.
Newbury magistrates heard that when Environment Agency officers visited Allbins' site they found skips full of mixed waste and waste-management machinery Officers returned to the site on 12 May 2004 and the yard locked, but most of the waste had been cleared. But when they inspected Allbins' new site in Padworth they found further evidence of an illegal waste operation.
Allbins is registered to haul waste but it has no licence authorising the deposit and burning of waste at the site. Investigating officer Jennifer Brett says: "We are pleased that Newbury magistrates recognised the seriousness of the offences. It sends a clear message to waste contractors operating illegally."
