KENT HAULIER R Swain & Sons is helping to raise the roof on Wembley National Stadium by managing the movement of steel sections to Wembley for Hollandia, the main steelwork contractor.
Most of the sections are manufactured on Teeside, but some complex parts for the stadium roof are being made in the Netherlands. These have been brought into the UK via Swain's river wharf in Rochester to minimise disruption on the road network. Swain is handling most movements in house hut subcontractors HC Wilson and Colin Lumsden Transport have supplied specialist low-loaders to move the sections from Kent to Wembley.
Matt Swain, contract manager for the Wembley project, says: "Wembley is a prestigious project and we are proud to be involved with it.
"It is particularly gratifying that we have been able to use our wharf business, which primarily handles Scandinavian timber and board, to help solve a tricky problem for Hollandia and minimise the road journey for the roof sections.
