George Alexander reports on a healthy market for well presented good condition late year stock.
Heavy used commercial dealers are experiencing healthy demand for good condition late year stock. Glass's Guide chief commercial vehicle editor George Alexander says there is no downturn in the truck market for well presented late year stock.
Part of that reason is that 7.54onne to 18-tonne truck chassis will rarely flood the used market unless there is a significant economic slump.
"With the current strength of the British economy, it is only reasonable to assume that this type of vehicle is being worked hard and, until its time is up with the first owner, will not be returning to the marketplace. To add to dealers' problems in sourcing the best light chassis it soon becomes apparent that most of what does return has been hard used by the first owner," reports Alexander.
At the top end of the market demand for tractor units is strong.
"A shortage of the best big cab high horsepower units from the premium marques has kept prices firm with demand comfortably exceeding supply," he says.
Export continues to thrive with the current trend showing no signs of letting up.The outlook for truck dealers at the heavy end, he adds, is encouraging. •
