TO be sold at about £330, a steel-bodied van version of the Lambretta threewheeled scooter has been introduced into this country by Lambretta Concessionaires, Ltd., 424 Kingston Road, ,London, S.VV.20. It is wholly Italian made, thus differing from another model described in The Commercial Motor on December 6. 1957, which has British plastics bodywork. The first Italian vans brought here have an opening flap on the right of the body, but as this is incompatible with the British rule of the road, future deliveries will have a roller shutter at the rear. A 5-cwt. load can be carried. The body is 3 ft. II in. long, 3 ft. 7 in. wide and has an interior height of 4 ft. 71 in. A pick-up• with similar floor size and sides 1 ft. 2 in. high is also available. It has provision for a canvas tilt on hoops. It will sell for less than the van, and chassis with cabs are also to be offered for about £280. Prices will finally he decided after the Customs authorities have calculated import duty.
The cab is notable in having apertures at the rear and in the roof. Canvas screens arc provided for both of these and may be removed in hot weather.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES FIRST
PRIORITY had been given to commercial-vehicle traffic in the new road programme, Mr. G. R. H. Nugent; Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, said last Friday in opening the new eastern approach road to Plymouth.
" As our country olives by trade we obviously could not afford to do otherwise," he said. "The result is that most of the new road works will be found in the industrial north and Midlands."
