LONDON TRANSPORT has set up joint management and union working parties to look at ways of making its Chiswick and Aldenham bus works viable.
Four teams have been set up at Aldenham, each under a project manager. Aspects of the operation being studied include the works annual service plan (Wasp), accident repairs programme, new manufacturing and parts reconditioning, and trim and destination-blind shops.
The teams are already identifying areas where cost, time and space can be saved and must submit reports to LT man agement by the end of this month.
At Chiswick seven teams have been set up and are looking at engines and fuel injection, gear boxes, axles and differentials, the woodmill, plating, blacksmiths, coppersmiths, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and electronics. The Chiswick teams are expected to report by the end of March.
