OUR LIFE would be boring if we all would have the same meaning about the actual problems, Thus I am glad to discuss with you about one theme which you talked about in your leader on December 10. You spoke about permit quotas and about all this foolish stuff of paper in this context. I am sorry but from my point of view the only possibility to avoid ruinous competition in the transport field is to restrict capacity and prices in some kind of market regulation.
This has been proved by a lot of examples in different countries, Great Britain included, and can be seen in the field of American aviation. As long as we don't have only a very few companies, the competition must be ruinous, with the result that at the end all the small and medium private companies get out of the market.
You can believe that the quota system as far as the German standpoint is concerned is not the result of closing the German market for foreign hauliers but a result of this kind of thinking and experience. My only aim and you should be sure about that is to help the hauliers in whatever country they stay. WILHELM DRESKORNFELD Bonn
