A ROUTE has been selected for the new Chelmsford by-pass in Essex, while there also have been important road developments in Scotland and Devon.
Following a public inquiry, the Department of Transport has agreed to build the by-pass on a southern route from the northern end of the Al2 Margaretting by-pass to the Al2 Springfield and Boreham by-pass. The existing Al2 through Chelmsford will cease to be a trunk road after the by-pass is built.
The Scottish project is the final stage of the East Kilbride Expressway linking the new town to the M74 near Hamilton. This ended with the opening of the £12.25m Blantyre-Bothwell section before Christmas.
In Devon, the Government has agreed to build the A30 Whidden Down-Okehampton diversion on a 5.4 mile route largely outside the Dartmoor National Park.
