they are considering militant action to protest about declining standards in the industry.
Dan Kinsella, director of The Port and Container Division, United Transport Association '91, has called for a day of action where drivers stay at their depots and refuse to work. And he warns that other operators are considering tougher action, including blockading principal roads such as the M25 and the Dartford Crossing.
Kinsella's association represents 130 owner-drivers operating out of ports across the country.
Many of them are investing large amounts of time and money into their business for little reward, he says, and they "are very angry at the moment".
He is calling for minimum rates to be set across the industry.
