• Truck sales in 1998 (over 15 tonnes GVW/GCW) grew by 161% to 52,962.
• LCV sales grew by 53% to 237,321 • Market leader in the heavy vehicle sector was the Paccar group (Leyland Oaf and Foden) with a share of 21.7%. The Iveco group (New Ford and Seddon Atkinson) was runner-up with a market share of 20.5%.
• The fastest-growing truck companies were Volvo (aided by the introduction of Mitsubishi Canter models), Renault, Foden and Leyland Oaf.
• Overall market leader in the light CV sector was (as ever) Ford, with total sales of 86,307. Its nearest competitor was Vauxhall, with sales of 21,986.
• Ford's market share was 37.1% of the up-to-1,800kg class and 39.1% of the 1300-1500kg class.
• The fastest-growing van manufacturers were Renault (with the new Master and Kangoo), Citroen and Toyota.
