LOW weight is an outstanding feature of the big articulated van illustrated on this page. The outfit comprises an A.E.C. tractive unit and a Carrimore detachable semi-trailer, with body built by the Duramin Engineering Co., Ltd., Standard Road, London, N.W.10.
Measuring 23 ft. long, 7 ft. wide and 7 ft. high, the large box body is a fine instance of how weight can be saved by the use of light metals, for the complete outfit scales only 7 tons 14 cwt. Thus, a full 14-ton pay-load may be carried.
Built for Hitchmans Dairies, Ltd.. a well-known East London concern, the semi-trailer is one of seven, of the same design, constructed by Carrimore Six Wheelers, Ltd., North Fiuchley, London, N.12, These are used in conjunction with three tractive units for which the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., Southall, Middlesex, is responsible. There is also an eighth semi trailer, equipped with a special tank body.
Naturally, all are quickly detachable
and interchangeable. They are provided with supporting legs, for use when uncoupled, lifting being effected by the Carrimore hydraulic lifting device.
