Exhibit:Two Vans ; two Lorries ; r-ton Van ; 1-ton Chassis.
Five vehicles are on exhibition, These are : two complete i-ton vans; a I-ton chassis ; a 2-ton lorry ; and a 28-35h.p., 5-ton lorry. The lorry is propelled from an engine the cylinders of which have a bore of To5mm., whilst the
piston stroke is 125mm. The normal speed, is i,000 revolutions per minute. The⢠Valves are 'driven from one camshaft,and are interchangeable. The company is 'following the latest approved practice in attaching the crankshaft bearings to the upper half -of the crank chamber, so that the lower portion can be dropped without disturbing the brasses. The different engine bearings are lubricated from a force-pump, contained within the base chamber; this pump sucks the oil from a sump, and delivers it to the different bearings throUgh balls:. The ignition is by
Simms-Bosch magneto, which is not under the control of the driver.
The radiator is of the gilled-tube pattern, and the water is circulated by gear-driven centrifugal pump. The usual fan is absent, and its function is performed by the fly-wheel, which is cast with vanes : the bonnet and undereasing of the engine fit well, and arc practically air-tight, so that, as the fly
wheel 'revolves, it creates a strong draught of air over the engine.
The gear-box contains three, ratios, which normally give speeds of 3a,6, and ij.6 miles per hour. Selector rods ancla gate are employed for changing the gear ratios. The shafts are fitted with Hoffmann ball bearings; and this
method of mounting is also adopted for the transverse differential shaft.
Special attention has been given to the strength and proportions of the axles, whilst the front steering-arms are carried on ball bearings to reduce friction. The front springs are 3 feet long, and the back ones are 3 feet 7 inches in length. For the convenience of those who wish to make a practical trial of the company's design, a I-ton lorry is kept in readiness outside the building; this vehicle was ordered, through Mr. Worby Beaumont, by McGregor, Caldbeck and Co.
