AFTER HEARING that transport costs had risen by 59 per cent in the past five years, the North Western Traffic Commissioners decided at a public sitting in Liverpool on Monday to grant an application from the Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive to increase bus fares from March 23.
On average bus fares will
be increased by 15 per cen. and will reduce the PIE': deficit by nearly f21/2m. Thif would still leave the Executivt with a deficit of £6,019,000
However, because the Executive is attempting te standardize its fare structure throughout the Merseyside area some fares will actualll be reduced.
