• Volkswagen's T5, the long-awaited successor to the current T4 Transporter range, is "proceeding to schedule", according to Bernd Wiedemann of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles— but the signs are that it will not be launched until next year.
Soon after VW will launch an "urban delivery van" to replace the Caddy in the increasingly important small van sector, and Wiedemann promises that this will be "a vehicle with an entirely new concept".
But Volkswagen may also be going ahead with a move into the truck market: at the Geneva motor show, incoming chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder hinted at a "partnership" between VW and Scania and perhaps also MAN, VW is unlikely to buy either truck maker (although it already owns 18% of Scania's stock). but Pischetsrieder suggested that in future hauliers would be dealing more and more with "a leasing company offering a full range of vehicles from vans to heavy trucks".
