• A transport interchange, where bus and railway services combine on the same site, is planned for Bolton in Lancashire as part of a local strategy for attracting car drivers to use the public transport system as well as their own vehicles.
At the present time it is envisaged that this would include a special car park designed to contain 2500 cars, to encourage the new habit of park and ride. SELNEC Passenger Transport Executive Officials told CM that they are attempting to put into practice an integrated rail and bus service in the area and are holding talks with officil from Bolton Corporation concerning the u of a site south of the town centre.
The proposal, disclosed this week, is construction of a new railway station on 1 busy Manchester-Bolton line at a point nt the Bolton town centre. The bus stati could then be built nearby to link with t] and the planned electrification a subsequent link-up with the Manches underground railway which has recen been given the go ahead.
