rose by more than 10% in the past year, says accident management firm Accident Exchange.
Additionally, foreign HGVs were at fault in one in every 378 road traffic accidents (RTAs) handled by Accident Exchange, between March 2008 and February 2009 — a 10% increase on the previous year.
Nearly a third (32%) of people involved in the cases analysed by the firm were unable to pursue claims against the negligent foreign driver, while 25% of all reported left-hand-drive truck accidents occurred on the M25 — up from 20% the previous 12 months.
Accident Exchange customer services managing director Michael Killoury says: "Non-existent policies, difficulty contacting foreign insurance companies and drivers driving away without leaving details are all reasons motorists are likely to be unsuccessful in recovering damages from foreign-registered HGVs."
