• Thompson Carmichael has supplied Welsh Water with a weight-saving aluminium tanker and built what it believes is the first ADR approved, dual-purpose waste/general products tanker.
Instead of a traditional-frame steel barrel, the 26,000-litre, 11.7in semi-trailer has an aluminium moncx:oque vessel which lowers its centre of gravity by 8%. It also helps to provide the water authority with up to 25.5 tonnes payload.
RO-R running gear includes air suspension with 385/60R 22,5 low profile tyres. Auxiliary power comes from the watercooled Kubota diesel engine and Hammond exhauster that produces 410m3/hour.
Thompson's new dual-use tanker is for Walsall-based rental company Integrated Tanker Services.
Built to comply with ADR classes 3.0 (flammables), 6.1 (toxic) and 8 (corrosives) it has full access at the rear.
