The supermarket giant has taken a new lease on the 263,000ft2 warehouse next to one of its existing distribution centres. Asda also wants to decrease authorisation at its Wakefield distribution centre on the Normanton Industrial Estate, to 113 vehicles and 156 trailers, In addition, the company plans to remove two other sites from its licence: the Whitford Warehouse in Castleford and its Port of Sunderland trailer/container park facility Last month Asda announced it was buying Dansk Supermarked's LTIC subsidiary Netto for £778m.
Asda intends to absorb Netto's South Elmsall, West Yorks DC into its own network, converting it into an ambient cross dock centre.
It is also looking to shut Netto's Daventry, Northants site. Volumes will be consolidated into Asda's other depots, while some new distribution capacity will be introduced in the North West.
Under the agreement, Asda has complied with a condition laid down by the Office of Fair Trading that 47 of the Nato stores should be sold.
The remaining 146 stores will trade under the Asda name by late summer 2011.
