THE national secretary of the Traders
Road Transport Association, Mr. H. R. Featherstone, speaking at Glasgow on Wednesday, uttered a warning over the concession on drivers' records.
"In practice vehicles will probably have to be doing the vast majority of their deliveries within a five-mile radius to make the concession worth while," he told members of the T.R.T.A.'s Scottish division. affe emphasized that the concession, which covered vehicles up to 16 cwt. unladen operating within live miles of base, was not yet operative and went on: "When it does come into operation care will be necessary on the part of companies with mixed fleets only partly engaged on lc mi delivery; where a vehicle seldom makes journeys not exceeding the five-mile radius companies will probably decide that the exemption from the keeping of records is not worth while."
Mr. Featherstone stressed that the concession was experimental. Abuse of the concession was therefore likely to have "side effects" which could go far beyond a summons served on an offending party.
