\V/I-IEN. Manchester Corporation and joint operators applied for permission to introduce higher bus fares last Thursday, the North Western Traffic Commissioners were told that' if the application were refused, the Corporation would face an accumulated deficit of £1,356,000 over the next three years. Outlining the details of the increases, Mr. A. L. Marsh. deputy town clerk to the Corporation, said it was proposed to raise the minimum fare from 2d. to 3d.; put one penny on most fares and increase

the price of cheap. "all day" travel tickets from 2s. 3d. to 2s. 6d. for adults, and Is. Ii. to is. 3d. for children.

Also passengers using the "City -Circle " service—which operates through the City centre—would travel two stages for 3d., and for three stages or more the fare would be 4d. Previously, this service had a uniform fare of 3d.

Granting the application, the chairman said that it was a pity that the .objectors did not see fit to attend to press their objections.
