• A Gloucester firm of general haulage contractors had its operator's licence curtailed from 12 vehicles to eight for two months at a public inquiry conducted by Sir John Potter, Western LA, in Cheltenham on Tuesday. The curtailment takes effect from September 23.
The inquiry heard that the firm, J. B. S. and R. G. Timms of the Retreat, Bristol Road, Hampstead, Gloucester, had collected many prohibition notices on a variety of vehicles since July 1969.
Mr Robert G. Timms, partner in the firm, said since the business started in 1964 it had expanded a great deal and it was probably not taking as much notice and giving as much time to repairs as it should have done.
Mr Timms blamed a lot of the defects on the rough haulage work the vehicles were doing nowadays. He had thought most people received prohibition notices and had not realized the seriousness until now. They would try to do better in the future.
