has been announced by Dolton Transport
Ltd., of Redditch, that as from April 14 they are paying the "Birmingham differential", following in the wake of the Millichamp award. This involves an extra 30s. per week, plus 15 per cent.
The .company points out that this increase, together with the increases in pay and overtime rates and the reduction in the working week just approved by the Wages Council, will increase the wages bill by 21 per cent; as an example, the basic pay of the driver of a 5/10-ton lorry becomes £14 16s. 5d. for a 41-hour week.
Dolton Transport employees were told during negotiations that the increases would have to be met by a rise of '7+ per cent in freight rates, and that this could mean possible unemployment.
