SHREWSBURY councillors have said that a penalty imposed on a local firm which failed to deliver a vehicle on time should be waived — because of the goodwill between them in the past.
However, they warned that companies that enter into contracts with the council and fail to abide by the terms should expect to pay the consequences.
Shrewsbury Borough Council's general purposes committee heard that delivery of a new refuse collection vehicle took place four weeks late and that more than £1,000 had therefore been deducted from the payments due to the supplier, Multilift of Harlescott Lane, under a liquidated damages clause.
However, the company had asked the council to review the situation, in view of the "excellent relationship with council officers in the past".
