I WAS GLAD to see CM report Dave Wetzel as saying "The GLC would also be flexible over the need to fit hush kits" when he was speaking at the RHA conference. At the same time, I was worried that your readers might be misled by this apparent flexibility for, if the ban goes ahead, the GLC will have no powers to demand hush kits at all.
In this context I would quote from the council's policy statement on exemptions, which states: "It will not be the council's exemption policy to require higher standards of noise emission or other vehicle criteria including exhaust controls than those which are applicable under national or European law and the council will not operate its exemption policy to require such standards."
