KILMARNOCK and Loudoun District Council has imposed a ban on heavy lorries running coal from Hunterston to Ravenscraig.
It is claiming nuisance under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and following alleged complaints of nuisance.
A route has been fixed entering the district by the A77 and leaving north of Galston Junction.
Empty lorries must not run through the district of Kilmarnock or Hurlford between lOpm and 7am.
The council has complained that neither hauliers nor drivers have reacted to complaints by council inspectors, compelling it to threaten court action on further complaints.
The Ravenscraig coal convoys have introduced an environmental lorry problem to parts of Scotland which hitherto ignored lorries.
