RYDER IS deploying a fleet of Euro-5 tractors with 28 specially designed trailers, to work on its just-In-time contract delivering components for the second-generation Mini to BMW in Oxford.
Ryder has also opened a logistics depot near Abingdon, Oxon where a management team will co-ordinate the production schedule with BMW.
A team of 50 drivers will collect components from 15 sites before delivering them to Oxford. Ryder Europe MD and vice-president Peter Backhouse says: "It is exciting to be able to contribute to the continuing success of this iconic brand through our automotive logistics expertise."
Ryder's European runs 15,800 vehicles out of 27 fleet management sites and 34 logistics operating centres,
