REPRESENTATIVES of nine southeast Lancashire passenger-transport undertakings will meet in Manchester on June 20 to discuss the co-ordination 'of transport services in the area and the setting up of •a joint advisory committee for the purpose of planning, as distinct from operating, services in the
area. The authorities .concerned are ManchesterJ Salford, Stockport, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Rochdale and the Stalybridge, Hyde, Massley and Dukinfield Joint Transport Board.
The transport committee. chairman, deputy chairman and general manager from each undertaking have been invited to attend. The meeting will take place in the Manchester Town Hall and will be presided over by Alderman W. P. Jackson, ,Mayor of Manchester.
In a letter convening the conference, Mr. P. Dingle7town clerk, says housing and other. developments will necessitate
the introduction of new transport services for Greater Manchester, and authorities will want to review the adequacy and suitability of existing services. He points out that the necessity of co-ordination has been emphasized by the railway companies in the Manchester. area It is understood that the question of co-opting non-municipal passengercarrying concerns and the railway companies is under consideration, •
