A NEWLY-launched TNT hanging garment delivery service has scooped two major contracts front chain stores British Home Stores and Next, and is aiming for more.
The two contracts are
worth 1:5 million year to TNT Garment Express, which will handle all of the two storeshanging goods by the end of April.
TNT's move into the lianging distribution market
deals a significant blow to Tibbett and Britten and Burnout-owned High Street Distribution, in particular. Tibbet and Britten held the contract with Next, while High Street Distribution was working for HI IS.
TNT claims that its service with standard next-day de livery, the use of new design rails on wheels for less handling. and computerised backup is unique.
"The equipment, together with the "I'N'I guaranteed overnight or two-day delivery services, provides the fashion industry with the means to mobilise stock, so reducing costs associated with storage, warehousing, packaging and
damaged goods," TNT Garment Express director Tony Holt says.
TNT is also claiming that it has had hundreds of inquiries from other interested retailers.
"We don't need to employ a sales force because they're coming to us," TNT distribution services general manager James Wilson told CM.
So far, up to 150 16-tonne and 32 5-tonne vehicles with
tuck-away tail-lift facilities are working from nine depots in the.UK.
