WITI-1 the object of assisting the producer-gas movement and thus benefiting the Nation by reducing the demands of essential civilian road transport for imported liquid fuel, we are desirous of collecting information relating to operators' experiences.
We therefore request all operators of producer-gas commercial vehicles to send us their views and to reply to the following specific questions, or to as many of them as they can. They may rest assured that their letters will be treated as confidential and not for publication, our intention being to sift the contents of them all, to draw our conclusions, and to publish an article reviewing the general position. As an independent and unbiased authority we are probably in a. unique position to do this.
We wish to know (I) what plants have been used and which have been most satisfactory; (2) what fuels have been used and which have been preferred; (3) the extent of the producergas experience that has been gained —mileage, number of vehicles; etc.; (4) the types of vehicle that have been operated on producer gas; (5) the troubles that have been encountered; (6) what has been the rate of cylinder . wear; (7) by how much and in what ways (if any) good performance and efficient operation have been adversely affected by the use of solid fuel; (8) whether any appreciable saving in operating costs has resulted.
