to have a study made into whether goods vehicles exceed speed limits. Stating this in the Commons this week, Mr. Thomas Galbraith, the Parliamentary Secretary, said there was no evidence that speed limits were not generally complied -With.
The high number of accidents in which heavy lorries were involved was mentioned by Captain John Litchfield (Tory, Chelsea) who said that many of these accidents were caused by the vehicles slowing down or stopping. This, he said, drew attention to the need for thorough inspections and proper rear lighting.
Mr. Galbraith retorted that statistics showed the accident record of goods vehicle drivers was as good, if not better, as any other class of driver.
