THE bed length of Dyson drop-frame semi-trailers with knock-out axles can be increased with a removable platform section developed by R. A. Dyson and Co. Ltd. This is coupled to the end of the lower deck after the axles have been removed, locating on the frame projections which normally carry the axles.
Axle mounting members are built onto the rear end of the platform extension and two robust box-section members fit over the existing chassis projections. The rocker beam journals fit into special housings in the extension and the standard locking nuts are used to tie the assemblies together without the need for
additional bolting. To simplify fitting of he extension, two large locating pegs are incorporated. These fit into sockets in the rear members of the semi-trailer, the fitting of these two sockets being the only modification to the actual semitrailer.
The particular extension illustrated was supplied to E. D. Beck and Sons Ltd.. of Stockport for fitting to one of its 20-ton Dyson semi-trailers, and increases the platform length by 10 ft. Because of the increased span, the carrying capa• city is somewhat reduced but the 32-ft. bed length is a valuable feature for certain kinds of work.
