HULL has plans for the purchase o two large, modern disposal vehicle which would make easy work of trans porting refuse to a tip 16 miles from tin centre of operations. Some three or fou years ago 40 of the cleansing depart ment's fleet of 59 vehicles were travellirq this distance in order to tin, but mori recently arrangements have been madi to use space closer to the city. Hull' disposal problems have not been so seven as those of many similar authoritie because destruction by incineration then accounts for 77 per cent of the intake steam thus generated being sold to offse the expense. On an average only 23 pc cent of refuse is placed on the controllet tips. When the distant site is used agait the plan will provide for reloading int( high-capacity units, so cutting long haul to the tip by the collection vehicles.
