ASPECIAL trailer of 50-ton capacity has been produced by R. A. Dyson and Co., Ltd., Grafton Street, Liverpool, for the transport of heavy machinery in India.
A fixed swan-neck at one end and detachable swan-neck at the other are supported on two bogies of identical design. The trailer can be towed from either end by interchanging the drawbar and steerrnan's platform. Each bogie is , fitted with hand steering gear and is fully sprung.
The loading deck is 18 ft. long by 10 ft. wide, and the overall length of !he trailer is about 46 ft.
Brakes take effect on all wheels ani arc operated by a two-line air-pressure system, actuated by the tractor braking system or the hand valve fitted to each carriage. Mechanical parking application is provided. The trailer has its own engine-driven compressor providing an air supply for the braking system when the trailer is used with a tractor having no air supply; the brakes are then operated by the hand valves.
By means of hydraulic king-pins the ground clearance can be increased by 6 in. when desired; by adjusting one set of stabilizers, virtual three-point suspension can be obtained for operation on rough ground.
The trailer is equipped with a built-in hydraulic jacking system which is used for detaching the swan-neck complete with bogie, to end-load machinery.
For the transport of transformers, detachable rails are fitted transversely at the centre of the lower deck. All the deck plates are removable.
