HE GOVERNMENT has proosed the abolition of all six letropolitan county councils nd the control of public transort to fail to representatives .om the district councils.
In its consultation paper, Streamlining the Cities", the Iovernment says that joint oards would be made up from istrict council representatives .om every town. These boards fould have control of public .ansport on a regional level, takIg over responsibility from the TEs.
The joint boards will be resonsible for major decisions on ;venue support and on fares nd service levels. They will ave authority to make a ruling n any decisions taken by the istrict councils. Should district ouncils want to provide 3parate bus services, the Transort Secretary would be brought
