A BID by Clayton Jones Coach Services to expand the operation of a minibus service into Pontypridd on three days a week, after having been granted in April, has been turned down by the South Wales Traffic Commissioners.
In April the firm's application to run a daily service from Ynysydwl in competition with existing services was rejected. The proposed expansion of the market-day minibus service which was authorised was opposed by National Welsh Omnibus, Taff Ely Borough Transport and MidGlamorgan County Council.
Roger Craddick for Clayton Jones said it was surprised that what it regarded as a minor variation should attract such a volume of objections from the major operator. Since the minibus service had begun, it had carried over 3,000 passengers and they were now seeking to improve the facilities afferred to the public.
The objectors argued that Clayton Jones was seeking a completely different service from that originally authorised by the Commissioners. Three additional journeys per day were being proposed in each direction using a 25-seater midibus which was catering for an area not already served,
