• Allegations of bus wars in South Wales have been refuted by Caerphilly-based municipal company Inter Valley Link, following revelations that it is planning to expand outside its traditional territory.
The company says: "The way business is these days, one has to follow the market," Inter Valley Link wants to improve the profitability of its fleet and open up the market where there are no existing services, or where the existing services need to be amended, rather than descend on other operator's patches.
It admits, however, that some of the new routes are in the territory of former National Bus Company subsidiary National Welsh and local independent Clayton Jones.
The new routes are a mix of tendered and commercial, and they were registered about three weeks ago, says the company. The IVL fleet consists of 62 vehicles at present, and the company says that it plans to increase this.
