in latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers which reports 51,013 registrations for the month — a jump of 26% from August 1987.
Sales for the first eight months of the year were up 13.9% from the same period last year, and importers' share of the market dropped slightly from 44.6% to 43.6%.
Iveco Ford continues to lead the registration war with 24.4% of the truck and artic market (11,094 registrations). Leyland Daf is close on its heels with 22.5%, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 10.5%. Volvo comes fourth with 10.3%; Renault Trucks claims 6.8% and ERF 5.5%. Scania has 4.6% in front of MAN with 4%. Seddon Atkinson follows with 3.3%, ahead of Foden with 2%.
