• Lorries of more than 7.5 tonnes could be banned from Sleaford in Lincolnshire because of the numbers of LGVs using the town's narrow streets as a quicker alternative to the bypass. After a survey which showed that 27% of goods vehicles in the town are just passing through, Lincolnshire County Council is considering a restriction. But its proposals are being attacked by the town's Chamber of Commerce, which feels a total ban could damage business in Sleaford. "A ban would be very difficult to enforce and may damage trade. Surely it would be better to put up more signs on the bypasses, encouraging drivers to avoid the centre of town unless it is absolutely necessary." A county council spokesman says a decision on the ban would probably be made early next year by the council's highways committee, but stressed it would not include vehicles delivering to the town.
